‘Scopes: July 23 – August 22

– Marty –

A cassette tape holds its story on two wheels. One wheel has already been heard and the other contains information that has not yet been made audible.  At the onset of your birthday month, Leo, you may feel snagged as you strain to hear the future while only being able to recount the past.  Where and with what does that leave you?  The N-O-W.  There is a lot of information available to you within earshot.  Take time to sit quietly and consider the sounds you hear.  You can give each sound a name or just let them sing to you without definition.

You may have noticed already, in addition to the sounds outside yourself, there are sounds emanating from within you, most importantly your own pulse.  Leo rules the heart.  The answer to many of your questions may come simply by listening to this one muscle, within each beat and between each beat.  Sometimes it is in the blank emptiness between each resonant sound that our selves can be heard most clearly.

Now is not the time to concern yourself with shadows.  For the present, nothing needs fixing or can be fixed by focusing on what is broken.  Instead, hurts may heal by embracing with light the parts of yourself and your life that already feel right.  Keep in mind – what is familiar may no longer be home.  You don’t have to move, but simply allow these parts to move on.

You can rest this month somewhere between freedom and responsibility.  Find your buoyancy once more as you head into a year that will make this practice somewhat easier.  Not only because the days themselves are lighter, but also because you have become skilled at finding your way to the surface again and again.

The Tarot of Marseille – Noblet – restored by Flornoy -Editions “letarot.com” | The Crystal Deck – Samson – Octopus Publishing Group – 2007

Dear Virgo,

This month, relationships and partnerships, romance and commitment are very much in your cards. Congratulations, for you have gone through a lot to get to this point: ready to take risks and step out of your comfort zone – the better to follow your heart’s desire.

To meet the challenges of these exciting new opportunities, I’m offering you a mini chakra reading. As an earth sign, you know better than anyone how to listen to your body and take its subtle cues.

Root: You may be feeling low-energy and in need of a confidence boost. Start by getting a good night’s sleep. Try meditation, hypnosis – anything to let go of that critical mind. Unakite tells me that gently loving your root chakra into health is the way to go. Resist the urge to fast-forward the healing process.

Sacral: Boy, are you feeling the love! Our sacral chakra is happiest when we don’t hold back from sensual expression. Stay open to new experiences, but manifest discernment and insight, taking labradorite’s cue.

Solar: Clearly, your sense of self-worth has been put through the ringer. It may take time for you to let down your guard, but you have a deeply passionate side that’s been held back for too long. Magnesite embodies firmness and honesty – tools to safeguard against losing yourself in a relationship.

Heart: Virgo, you have truly grown. As the King of Swords, you marry experience and wisdom to make decisions that truly serve the greater good – while remembering that your first duty is to be true to yourself. Amazonite affirms the power of your heart.

Throat: That tongue-tied, lump-in-the-throat feeling when something really special comes along? Patience, my friend. Listen to your heart and wait for the truth to speak. Savour stillness.

Third Eye: Your intuition has never been stronger. Don’t ignore any dreams and visions that appear now. Trust yourself. Your sense of purpose and optimism is on fire.

Crown: With so much going on in matters of the heart, you may start feeling ungrounded. Go back to the root chakra. Stay focused on your long-term goals.

Madame Clara Sees All Tarot – Motel Gift Shop

First, dear Libra, let me say that I hope you have found a way to re-center in the cacophony of the last few weeks. As much of the world around us is realizing, we now have to reckon with what lay buried within us.

All that unearthing work you did in the past season has, of course, revealed some bones of your past and past lives you’d rather have left buried deep. The carefully crafted strategies of self-preservation that rely on erasure and repression fool us all into a false notion of security or victory. They aren’t all bad, at times they are necessary survival skills that help our delicate hearts feel some kind of safe again. What we cannot forget is that our past selves/lives hidden away in shadow thought best forgotten, live with us still and remind us not just of our sorrow but the pockets of joy we won with difficulty.

Time, ancestors, and your beautiful spirit have no use for strictures of chronology. They charge you with integrating all your beautiful selves. Watch for old lessons (and people!) coming back to warn you off of having to learn them over. Honor your experience by moving with discernment and calling on those lessons to guide you. Afterward, release them and do not hold on so tightly to the bones of the past, let them rest after they do their work. The unearthing was necessary, picking those bones apart isn’t.

Oooh, Scorpio! You are amongst it this month! Amongst, specifically, beginnings and endings, birthing and maturity, conception and reckoning. On the one hand, the Magician’s desire to begin, to manifest hums under the surface. On the other, Judgement longs for you to shine the light of awareness on what you have made, to find closure and completion and satisfaction. Finding a way to work peacefully and creatively with these opposing energies is your challenge and your lesson this month.

Before we get into that, though, can you take a moment to recognize just how capable and skilled and creative and worthy you are? The Magician demands that you recognize your own power and goodness, that you own your ability to affect change upon the world. It’s not an ego trip to recognize just how on fleek you are, Scorpio, so take the time to really work that into your bones this month. It’s only once you agree to work diligently to recognize your capability that you can start to wield the incredible tools that you have at your disposal like a true magician.

So, you’ve taken up your tools. What do you use them for? This month, ask yourself, “What do I want to make?” Notice that both of these cards prominently feature human hands in action. What mark will you leave on this cave wall? What will you mold and shape and touch and build? How will you use your powers of manifestation to really live your values? When the month is all said and done, what kind of living do you want to hold up to the light? Where do you want to be when you are asked to declare, “Here I am?”

That’s how we temper The Magician with Judgement. You’re invited to take the long view. It’s not enough to simply do something, without insight or forethought. You need to come to an understanding of what it means for you and wield that meaning like the powerful intention it is. You are being summoned, Scorpio, to realize your power and to wield it to make a life to be reckoned with!

Nature Spirit Tarot - Jean Marie Herzel - self-published 2015

Nature Spirit Tarot – Jean Marie Herzel – self-published 2015

Stop. Take a deep breath. And look around you.

As the Sun enters Leo, it may feel as if you’ve walked into a no man’s land. The city you just left is behind you, your destination ahead. At this moment, you are in transition. As the days progress into August, I want you to ask yourself, “What do I hope to find ahead?”.

Now, I know you – because I am also one of you – and there will be no shortage of thinking as you come up with your answer. The Queen of Swords shows us how we respond to these transitional times. Keep calm and carry on, you say. You’ve known the challenges life can throw at you and this is no different! One step at a time, you march forward, all while keeping your mind agile but practical. There’s no use in worrying about things you can’t control, after all! Life is a journey, not a struggle, etc., etc….

I fear in all of this practicality that you may lose sight of the heavenly in this space. It is in these moments of change that Spirit draws up close to us, or we draw closer to It. As a result, a whisper on the wind carries enormous power. Be careful with your thoughts.

I allow the Universe to exceed my expectations.

Let in a bit of levity when compiling your thoughts about the future. Allow a bit of optimism to creep into your plans. The Hanged Man here shows us that things just aren’t moving, so there’s no point in working overtime today. Hanged Man energy is about letting go, releasing the ties that bind you at work or at home, and relaxing. If you’re a yogi, stand on your head. If you’re anyone, get out that beach chair and head to the coast.

Ok, you’re a bit of a brainiac, I get that, and perhaps sitting on the beach isn’t normally your thing, but I’m afraid sitting is what’s needed now. You’re in transition. Honor this moment with the quiet reflection of the Buddha. Go inside and listen to the rhythm of your heartbeat. Take note of the nature of your soul.

And one more thing!

Life is not nearly as bad as you think.

The blues in these cards are speaking to me, and they’re saying, “the Sag will think the sky is falling, but in reality, things are ok.” My dears, you’re overthinking and over-worrying.

Stop. Take a deep breath. And exhale.

You’re going to be fine.

The Yoga Tarot – Filadoro – Farina – Lo Scarabeo – 2008

You’re going to need something to clean up with because the next couple of months are sure to be sweaty, sticky and sweet.

13 July ~ 5 August

Hot, sticky, dripping, juicy, wet Venus in Leo spraying drama and romance all over July and August. Romantic Venus is now happily prancing through lively Leo until 5 August. We’re eager for some fun of our own (aided by Mercury now in Leo). Love becomes larger than life with incredible romantic opportunities. During this time, romance is going to go into overdrive as Venus moves into Leo.

13 July  ~ 30 July

You’ll speak with such flair that no one will be able to resist your words. Mercury in Leo is about self-expression and self-promotion. Mercury and Venus now in Leo bring out our inner diva; we want to give attention and receive attention, share what we know, but may have a harder time than usual getting out of our own perspective and walking in another’s shoes. The Leo can bring us out of our shell; we just have to decide if we want to reach out for personal grandstanding, or the collective good. Mercury in Leo is about putting our best self forward, facing life’s challenges with a positive attitude, and making your own creative contribution known.

Card for Capricorn: 3 of Pentacles Reversed

Ponder this …

• Am I expressing or pursuing my desires in the right way?
• Am I missing what the moment has to offer because I’m so worried about what supposed to last?
• Am I cultivating the right kind of reputation?

« Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of — for credit is like fire; when once you have kindled it you may easily preserve it, but if you once extinguish it, you will find it an arduous task to rekindle it again. The way to a good reputation is to endeavour to be what you desire to appear. » ~ Socrates

Reputations are on the line this month. Our reputation could get tarnished if we find ourselves associating or associated with the wrong crowd. We can also do ourselves a disservice if we give into bragging or indiscretion. What we do over the next few weeks is going to have lasting repercussions to how others perceive us, with misperceptions likely to develop … so conscientiousness is key.

But remember … reputation is pretty much in the hands of others because it’s their perception of you. Little control we have over that. What we do have control over is our character. So it will be the character we live by this month that the reputation will follow. Only invest in that which enriches your character.

There are questions and assessments needed regarding the makeup of who we’re working with, how we’re collaborating, and whether it may be time for us to go it on our own.

Let work take a holiday. Be intentional in making time for fun, frolic and play. Don’t just wait for the weekend, or plan things that are fun, creative, distracting then. At least one day a week (fi not more) over the next four weeks, carve out a portion of a workday to go off and do something non-work related.

Recent studies have shown that our creativity and productivity are far more greatly enhanced when we break up our periods of intense focus rather than the more traditionally agreed on an approach of just buckling down and getting the job done. It’s recommended that we spend no more than about an hour intensely focused on any one activity or task. Our brains need time to daydream, to drift, to relax and process, to recharge. So, for example, an hour of really diving into that project followed by a period of something that doesn’t demand so much brain power, like cleaning out that desk drawer or going and sitting outside to just chill, observe, capture a Pokémon gym.

For our Venus in Leo suggestions, we turn to the Tarot Sutra by Patricia Canova, MSC:

• Purchase erotic sculpture, art or books
• Drop hints of amorous affection
• Subtly suggest rather than offering up details
• Cultivate curiosity, envy, a lust for more
• Experiment with things that are ephemeral, in the moment, here today and gone tomorrow (it’s not meant to last)

“Taking a hold of the present day, pushing it on, pushing it on, pushing it. Taking control of my destiny, making it fine, making it fine, making it.”

Lyrics from “Afterglow” by Phaeleh

The Starchild Tarot (Akashic Edition) by Danielle Noel Aquarius, your affirmation for this month is “I take control of my destiny” as you are faced with two major themes, empowerment and connection.

Empowerment can feel like a temporary pause or withdrawal as you reflect to find your center. What’s important to you? How do you want to set the pace, tone, and direction of your life?

Connection is at the heart of your desire to claim empowerment. You pride yourself on independence and autonomy and a relationship has lured you into an unfamiliar and possibly unpredictable space.

Maybe you’ve been feeling like you are in the driver’s seat of a car that you can’t seem to figure out how to control. You may be struggling with the illusion of control, telling yourself that it’s your hands guiding the wheel and your foot setting the speed but the truth is that you’ve lost control of the car. The car may be a metaphor for a relationship that’s swept you up and is taking you for a wild unruly ride of a lifetime. You are ready to hit the brakes and reclaim your role as navigator.

Whatever role this relationship has in your life, the Wheel of Fortune points to a change in its direction or a change of heart. Some sort of rebalancing needs to happen. And remember that this may even be the relationship you have with yourself. This month, ask yourself:

  • Where am I positioned on this wheel that’s spinning round and round?
  • Who’s spinning the wheel?
  • If I stick my hand out can I regain control of it?
  • What is it about this relationship that has me spinning, feeling out of control?
  • What do I need to feel a balance of surrender and will as this relationship unfolds?
  • How can we bring balance to this relationship so that we feel like equals?

Sun & Moon Tarot – Decort – US Games – 2010

The Hanged One rx (reversed) + 9 Pentacles rx

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
Maya Angelou

The Hanged One, the cosmic container of primordial urges,  hangs over Pisces like a free-flowing psychedelic banner. I suppose it won’t surprise you that Neptune is, in fact, dancing in the sign of Pisces and will be til’ November of this year. And maybe you’ve already been feeling that strung-out-to-dry feeling; the kind that sends you into retreat mode. The kind that turns you on to the tried and true and maybe turns you away from more outward adventures.

The Hanged One and the nine pentacles are right at home with one another – water and earth, Neptune and Virgo, hanging and holding, blue expression and orange creativity. These cards amplify each other’s messages and anchor Pisces in the ambiguous yet familiar place of disconnect, whether during flashes of inspiration or in those moments where you feel out of sync with the shifting ground beneath you. Either way, this summer has you “in your feelings,” and you’ve been this way for some time, haven’t you?

Dream on Dreamer. You need to know that now’s a good time to dissolve, wonder, and imagine. Now is a good period to stretch those fantastical Piscean psychic muscles and draw what you can from the chaos of the unconscious, from the world’s unraveling. You need to do you for a while longer. Recharge. Discover. Disintegrate.

Remember also, dear Pisces, to doubt the part that feels secure in the need to burrow into comfort, the need to stay safe at home and in unconscious patterns. Let your meandering be joyous, unabashed, and sensual. Whatever it needs to be. But do not let it mire you down.

The time to blossom is coming. Not just because the world needs your profoundly visionary voice. But also because this is how you will find new ways to feel even greater comfort, and find even more ways to come home to yourself.

The NatureSpeak Oracle – Andrews – Dragonhawk – 2006 | The Sorcerer’s Tarot – Castelli – Lo Scarabeo – 2014

Oracle card: Snow – Awakening Dreams
How can Aries best shine this Leo Season? 3 of Swords
How can Aries keep from succumbing to ego? Knight of Wands
What Aries can look forward to? Knight of Cups
What Aries should avoid? 0 – The Fool

Oh, Aries, what a summer it’s been so far! While you’re battling through some deep emotions, heartbreaking ones even, know that this experience is contributing to you shining brighter than ever. Your dreams are being illuminated (truly, in a roundabout way!), showing you exactly how you don’t want to feel so you can make changes that allow you to feel the way you want to. In situations like yours, it’s easy to act impulsively and to lash out in anger, making hasty decisions to get away from the fray as efficiently as possible – but not this time. There are important life lessons being learned now, and true forward motion can only be had through embracing the full experience.

Know that what is happening now will ultimately allow you to take action on your true ideals! Yes, your dreams are coming true, and that’s a beautiful thing. Look forward to becoming a stronger, more compassionate person, one who inspires others with their dedicated heart and drive for happiness. With this in mind, though, don’t take the easy road! This is a time when expectations are important, and you’ll need both eyes open to gain your soul’s prize. Keep doing your best (you always do, don’t you?), and maintain your vision of the future by thinking creatively and acting accordingly. You’re ready to take on the wilderness, using the emotional lessons of the past as fuel on the road to a better You!

This is a time of action, where you’ll want to listen to your emotional depths over your fiery impulses. The concept of “completion” seems to be blocking you from getting to a place of planning to a place of loving the results – keep working on yourself and lean into the potential for healing present in all that’s going on in your life, and keep your wits about you to make up for the palpable lack of stability you’re currently experiencing. This is a prime opportunity to re‐write the chapters of your life that you haven’t been feeling! All of this adds up to a future of joy for you, as you realize your true potential in the face of challenge, coming to a new understanding of your own patterns of thought and action for the absolute better.

Starchild Tarot – 2014 | Message from your Animal Spirit Guides Cards – Hay House – 2008

Well, hey there Taurus!

It looks like you’re on the brink of something pretty awesome.

But in order to get there, it would be good to take some time to focus and observe.

The Knight of Crystals brings a message for you that you are moving forward in the right direction with your career and finances. If you feel like you’re not, well, you just are.

If you really aren’t happy with where you’re going in this part of your life and you’ve been having some big ideas and visions about how to change it then you really need to start paying attention to those thoughts.

Whether you’re trying to get out of your soul destroying minimum wage job or working towards your second million, pay attention to your desires, they are the clues that will lead you forward.

But wait! There’s more! Weasel comes in to let us know it is not a great time to rush into anything, no quitting the day job just yet.

However! This is the perfect time for you to start to notice what’s going on. To notice and sit with your ideas and dreams. Start listening to them. What are they saying? What messages do they have for you?

Your homework this month is to meditate, be still, go within, make a vision board, do some goal setting and affirm that you are on the path to where you want to go. You always will be.

With love, light and goal setting power!

Rider Waite deck published 1909

This is a magical spread, Gemini; you are set for a magical month if you choose it so.

This spread delineates three stages of manifestation. It begins with the Magician. The Magician’s ruling planet is Mercury and Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, the trickster God, ruler of trades and neighborhoods, of short journeys, exchanges of information, and above all, of communication in all its many forms, rules, yes, you guessed it, Gemini.

Next, comes the King of Swords, the King of Swords rules your brother sign Aquarius, glancing as he does so at the last decan (10 days) of Capricorn, the signs of fixed air and cardinal earth. The first, a place of community, speaking of innovation and advances often of a technical nature. The second, of authority and achievement.

Finally, we have the six of cups. The card whose name is The Lord of Pleasure.

Not a bad spread for making it happen.

Let’s go back.

If you are a Gemini Sun sign your natal Mercury can only be in Taurus, Gemini, or Cancer. And the great messenger of the skies will behave in earthy, airy, or watery fashion accordingly. The modalities of these signs are, respectively; fixed, mutable, and cardinal. Firm and sustaining, responsive and improvisational, or initiating and leading accordingly.

What are the rules of magically making positive changes?

  1. Know your intention.
  2. Energize it.
  3. Believe it has manifested already.

These are exquisitely excellent cards for doing all that. Allow your inner magician to conjure some advances in your life. Once you select your desired outcome, visualize it in detail. Now deploy the authority of the King, which is your own authority. Hold that vision and surround it with positive energy and strength. Do this once with great focus and attention. Lastly, take pleasure in the good result.

As with all spell craft the one great overarching rule applies:

“An it harm none, do what thou wilt, an it harm none.”

The Smith-Waite Centennial Tarot Deck – US Games – 2009 |Osho Zen Tarot – St Martins Press – 1995

Strong, Enduring Cancer,

The cosmos is pressing you towards a singularity. Your passions and intentions seek fusion—finally, the fundamentals of your fire element are coming into alignment. As gravity pushes the moment to its crisis, you may find yourself reeling in the grips of vertigo. Resist the urge to cling to the familiar. Shutting down now would suspend you in limbo and leave you feeling discouraged and confused. Instead, be as Alice—tumble freely down the rabbit hole and seek companionship with the clocks and teacups that follow you.

There is a difference between pausing and retreating—the former provides you clarity of mind, body, and soul so you may press on with open eyes and an open heart. The latter sees you hunkered down in a fall‐out shelter, subsisting on the canned goods of last year’s harvest. Save your stories for another day. Instead, cultivate the seeds you’ve planted and wait for the rain. Despite your doubts and misgivings, it will come.

Light beckons from the horizon, but you have miles to go before it wraps you in its warm embrace. The beastly fury of unconquered shadow is its gatekeeper—a lion snarling and raging with the anger of yesterday’s failures and insults. Regardless of outlawed prayer by royal decree, Daniel prostrated himself and was thrown into the lion’s den. Threatened with violent death, he still chose to believe, and in his belief, he was spared.

Doubts will creep into your consciousness as you move towards transformation. The compulsion to self‐sabotage will be strong, and will only grow stronger as you approach your goal. Resist these urges with the weapon of your truest, highest self. Commit yourself to walking the path that’s laid before you, and you will conquer the lion and witness your garden ripe with the fruits of your labor.

Strike out towards the rosy tableau. Presently, you’re swept up in the monochrome of the twister, but if you keep your wits about you, you’ll awake to find yourself in Oz.
