« Neutrality is at times a graver sin than belligerence. » Louis D. Brandeis

We’ve got transformative revolution that all starts with the seduction of extended foreplay as we put the past behind us and live more authentically as our Self : The Expanded Edition.
A few astrological events colour the month of Capricorn, including the Winter Solstice, which gives a sense of the upcoming year. Let’s see what those are and how the Tarot can help us best navigate and tap into the full potential of what’s going on.
19 Dec 2016 ~ 8 Jan 2017
  • Serious re-evaluation of goals and ambitions … be prepared to press the reset button at the New Moon, 29 Dec
  • Introspection
  • Coming to terms and making peace with major change
  • Gracefully presenting our very best and most authentic Self, offering what we uniquely bring to the world
  • Standing courageously in what we most deeply believe
2 of SWORDS Reversed (Passionflower)
  • Know yourself
  • Be decisive
  • Be ready to take action on decisions and choices made
  • We can no longer sit on the fence … it’s time to wake up, speak up and choose a side that represents and aligns with your highest integrity
  • Don’t let who you are or what you believe be dictated by the court of public opinion
  • We can no longer use the excuse of neutrality as a way of not facing or dealing with the uncomfortable realities
WINTER SOLSTICE (Jupiter opposite Uranus and Eris, making a T-square to Pluto in close conjunction with retrograde Mercury)
21 December 2016
  • The fervour of revolution bubbles and boils
  • Being asked to stand up for what you believe
XIII DEATH (Elder Flowers)
  • Nothing is as it once was, and all things, including ourselves and our relationship to everything, is undergoing a major transformation
  • Accepting the impermanence of all things allows us to move forward rather than be stuck in the past, desperately trying to hold on to something that can no longer exist and is a hollow, lifeless shell of what it once was
  • Unknown, uncharted territory lies ahead … let’s step fully, boldly, curiously into it rather than being afraid of it
  • Something deeper, darker, ever more mysterious beckons us like a siren’s song … dive, and dive deep … the deeper we dive, the higher we’ll go
  • We can choose to roll over and play dead, or we can rise like the phoenix, more alive, vital, determined, aware then ever before
24 December 2016 (hanging out through most of 2017)
  • Make changes that preserve the integrity of the structure.
  • Patience pays off
  • Say, « Yes ! «  instead of « Can it wait » or « Can it be this way instead. » Be ready for and open to saying yes to the unexpected.
  • Be prepared to bend, break and/or rewrite the rules by finding creative ways to work within the rules, or discarding ones that aren’t valid for you. Blend rules with alternatives rather than thinking we always have to play by the rules, no matter how outdated or outmoded. The game has changed.
  • Break free from the limits and boundaries you’ve toiled within.
  • Focus and take responsibility
3 of SWORDS Reversed (Pleurisy Root)
  • What may seem final may not be quite so … a surprise development or unexpected turnaround could occur … so don’t give in or give up so easily
  • We’ve done the work to process and heal … it’s time to re-engage in the game of life with all of its vulnerability, risk, love, loss, gain, pain, joys and sorrows
  • We re-engage in a modified way with a new set of rules … it’s our Self : The Expanded Edition … YOU get to make the rules for your life, so don’t abdicate that power to anyone or anything else
  • Don’t let yourself be shut off or shut down because of previous experience … it’s not going to be the same again (nor can it ever be), so be open and willing rather than fearful and reticent
26 December 2016 (through March 2017)
  • Big winners … and big losers
  • Be prepared for unpredictability … little will be quite what we expect it to be or how we plan for it to go
  • High alert against going overboard in expansion, debt and expectations
3 of WANDS Reversed (Saffron)
  • Don’t overreach
  • Acknowledge and honour necessary limits and restrictions … save the urge to push the limits for the right place and right time rather than trying to live that way all the time
  • Contraction may be necessary for a while, so let’s rein in impulsiveness and do things in smaller, more manageable increments
  • Growth and expansion can’t go on indefinitely without correction … find the balance of taking advantage of the growth periods while also being prepared for slower, leaner periods … otherwise, the impact of the loss or downturn may be greater at the personal level than it needs to be
  • Seduce with foreplay rather than wham, bam, out … Coming on too strong could create snapback or pushback … ease into rather than steamroll over

Dreams of Gaia Tarot – Ravynne Phelan – Blue Angel Publishing

“When the dust in the field has flown
And the youngest of hearts has grown
And you doubt you will ever be free
Don’t bail on me.”

– Lyrics from “Riverwide” by Sheryl Crow

Aquarius, your affirmation for this month is “In mediating conflict, I take risks that are brave and responsible.”

Your tarot allies during Capricorn season are the Six of Wands, The Youth, and The Father. The Six of Wands at the top represents the essence of the month ahead. It’s an invitation to succeed in mediating a conflict. There is healing to be done this month, dear Aquarius, and that healing is about bringing reconciliation to the rebellious part of you and the part that knows it needs to yield to responsibility.

The Youth and The Father look nearly identical in posture and environment.

Both are staring out into the future pondering the possibilities. Both hold symbols of wisdom in their hands, a torch of victory for the Father and a walking stick of adventure for the Youth. Both have animal allies, a panther symbolizing protection and power for the Father and the dog symbolizing protection and loyalty for the Youth. Both are out in nature with the Father seated on a throne in the woods and the Youth on bended knee on the grass, with mountains behind him, in an open field beneath a starlit sky. The Father has a look of calculated thoughtfulness on his face. The Youth looks out with wonder, openness, and daring.

The elder and youth show a progression in aging and maturation. And yet they never truly separate from one another. We can always see glimpses of the Youth in the Father and the influence of the Father in the Youth. There is peace to be found here between them.

You can always call on your youthful essence when you are buckling under the weight of having to be a grown-up. In that case, it makes sense to want to run away in rebellion, and this is a call to stay the course. Or, when something or someone is calling on you to throw caution to the wind and do that thing you’ve always wanted to do, you can summon your inner Youth to guide you on the journey.

Dear one, this month you are growing wiser and discovering a balance between your impulse to flee and desire to stay the course. There is a conflict requiring you to be bold and steady, to bring together the best of your idealistic self and the skilled and cautious leader that you are.

You are learning to temper the risk-taker within with the wise elder you are becoming. You are grounding your elusive idealistic dreams in discipline and responsibility. You are making peace with your fiery youthful self and studious cautious self. Go on and be both idealistic and bravely responsible!

Featured Deck:
Lumina Tarot – Lauren Aletta – Inner Hue – 2015

Sweet Pisces,

2016 was all about learning to share and give of yourself. Not for selfish gains, but truly from the heart with pure intention. Sharing knowledge, skills, information, and resources. As you share with others, so to will they share with you. This year was also about keeping your abundance mindset in check, trusting that you have all that you need, and getting rid of a poverty mindset.

For 2017, you will discover the importance of balance, organization, and how your mental is tied in with how your physical manifests. Keeping a focused and clear mind will be of importance. Don’t be afraid to learn some new tricks. Take your skills to the next level! Take a class, teach yourself something new, really work with your intellectual mind. This year will be spent analyzing, researching, and communicating that knowledge. Pay special attention to how you use your words and express your feelings with others.

In moments of silence or when you feel like you’re not making any progress, know that you will continue to make forward movement if you find ways to communicate what you’re dealing with effectively. Celebrate the little victories. Be patient with yourself! These things don’t just change overnight. It takes conscious effort every single day to retrain your thinking.p Cut out the fear of expressing your feelings to bring in more clarity to your interactions with others! Throat Chakra work may be of the utmost importance this year. Working with crystals that support, clear, and balance this chakra such as sodalite, blue lace agate, or blue kyanite could be beneficial in 2017.

Happy Holidays!
From my soul to yours,
xo Ariel

Welcome to Night Vale Tarot – Jay Holloway – TopatoCo – 2014

Fiery Aries, you’ll need to look back to move forward this season. While everything in you might want to dig in and hold fast, I urge you to let the energy current take you where you need to go- and don’t be surprised if it deposits you in spaces you thought you’d left behind or abandoned. Those old wounds need tending to.

You left some of your treasure back there in the shadows and you are invited to go seek it by the light of the moon. Of course, moonlight is not the most reliable source of light- but it is the source of light which forces us to look deepest into the shadow to really seek out what’s there. Under the moon’s gaze we open up more than our sight, we stand still, we listen hard, and every stir in the night turns our head, our bodies poised for fight or flight. We take greater care in the darkness and are less likely to go rushing in all fiery and sure of ourselves. The moon strips us of false confidence and bluster and leaves us subject to all that surrounds us.

It is in this energy you walk back into your past to face what is unresolved. It may be against your nature, but for the next few weeks release the need to control every outward detail of how you make your way. Your domain is internal. This is where your power is to be found- tending to that inner fire. It is what you’ve always been able to fall back to and with good reason! That fire is the promise that will keep you as you make your way through the illusory light of the moon.

Mythical Creatures Tarot

The main energy for the month is the Sun represented by the Firebird from the Mythical Creatures Tarot. Home and family are highlighted. Not unusual for you Bulls since you are very protective of those you consider yours. You can expect a bit more recognition during this time as well. I know you don’t always like the spotlight but suck it up, Buttercup. You deserve this. Plus? They want to say nice things about you.

Your helping energy is the Ten of Cups which I often call the Happily Ever After card. Express your own gratitude, joy and love for those who create your family. Family that is chosen is a precious thing so make sure you put some energy into returning that love. You can be a joy magnet during this time. Expect more to be drawn to your nurturing presence. Just remember to set firm boundaries.

The thing that will get in your way is the Chariot (Neptune is a great representative here.) If you are struggling to get your life going the way you know it should be, it may be time to be a bit more firm on your own reins. If you let yourself go all over the place, you won’t get where you want to be. So set some goals down on paper. Then write down three things you need to do to get to each goal. The last thing is the hardest thing. Actually, do those things you wrote down. Take steps to live your own life for a fabulous launch into 2017.

Kuan Yin Oracle – Fairchild -Hao – Blue Angel – 2012 |
Shadowscapes –  Law – Llewellyn – 2010

Gemini, we’re almost at the end of 2016! Thank goodness, right? This year has been quite the battle, with you feeling constantly in the middle of one hairy mess or another! Well, the busy tizzy hasn’t been for nothing. It’s been more like a compiling of all the charges and alkalines needed to fertilize the beautiful flower bulb that is You at Present, where your many inner dualities are coming together and finding you on top. While your emotions often make you nervous, you’ve been owning them and finding yourself able to float high above the fray, seeing yourself in a cool new light, and feeling able to dance with whatever life sends down the pipes.

Have you ever heard the song “Roses in December” by Vera Lynn? It’s all about feeling able to “make the most impossible things come true,” and Gemini, you’re about to bloom! But instead of needing someone else’s love to create magic and achieve recognition, the only love you need is your own. Happily, your achieving self-love is just the growth spurt needed to find you realizing the appreciation you’ve longed for through all the year’s toils.

You’ve made your way up the spiral, so keep up with all the revelations you’ve had about how to be your best You. You’re ready to share yourself again, and your personal power is through the roof! Know that there is no longer any need to fight, so set yourself free from any lingering doubt and leap forth to make 2017 your best year yet. No more room for stagnation, the inner work has been done and you have come into a period of great energy and passion. Don’t forget your struggles, but know that they do not define you: look forward to a new dawn that finds you fully feeling like the blazing miracle that you are!

JUNE 22 – JULY 22
– Colin –

The Swiss Deck – U.S. Games – 1972

If you work with the cards yourself, you’ll know that it’s often like they are smarter than you are, right? These cards are saying something about the time of year.

The Magician in the middle, with Juno on his right and Temperance on his left. That’s a big three – three majors. So how about all that trinity stuff? The three wise men following that Saturn Jupiter conjunction all those years ago. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. …Three fates, three furies… Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva… End, Middle, Beginning… Sun, Earth, Moon… Maiden, Mother, Crone… What is the number three doing for you this year, at this time?

Typically associated with the creative impulse. The Magician is a master communicator, ruled by Mercury. And Mercury went retrograde 19th December (one of 3 times a year), use the time to look within. Don’t worry about missed calls (they’ll call back – and if they don’t – well it can’t have been that crucial), get to your still centre, if ever there was a time of year to find some quiet amidst all the seasonal hype … Take a little stillness – it’s free, and you’ll feel better for it and if you do it often enough, so will those you love.

Juno rules childbirth, in the Rider Waite deck, this card (The High Priestess) is ruled by the Moon, who has a lot to do with birth. And of course, Cancer is ruled by the Moon. You, Cancer, are one who cares. You look after others, you can’t help yourself, it’s your nature to be maternal – and yes, guys can do that too.

The angel of Temperance rules Sagittarius, the sign that just came and went. And while Sag knows how to party, here we see her sober mood. Deeply concerned with spiritual nourishment, with rest and restoration, and profoundly with blessing.

So have a blessed Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Yule, Or any holiday you are celebrating. Full of light, love and laughter.

The Linestrider’s Journey – Siolo Thomoson – 2014

Darling Leo, coming into Capricorn season, you’re having to fight a little bit harder, a little bit longer than normal. But it won’t be forever, and you won’t be without your resources. You’ve put yourself in a position to fight because you aren’t afraid of going after what you want. You’ve put yourself in position to voice your opinions, your truths, because that’s what you know how to do. And you can absolutely stay there and ward off the people who try to pull you down.

The King of Pentacles symbolizes your ownership, your place in the material and physical world. You know you have your place and you know how to work it, how to maneuver in these spaces. With all the charisma and grace as a Leo, your ability to shine and influence others will come into play. Some may be resistant to the change, but you just need to believe in your own wisdom.

Now…I don’t normally pull a shadow card, but something about the deep, grounded Capricorn season insisted that we take a look below the surface. And waiting for you, dear Leo, was the King of Swords. We just spoke about the King of Pentacles lending you their wisdom but the King of Swords is here to remind you to take time to examine everything before sending it out for others.

Examine your idea of wisdom, of practicality, of logic. Are you truly doing all of this for yourself or other people? Are you finding yourself acting.  merely for the sake of pleasing other? Your independent nature will feel stifled if you try to people please too hard, listen to your nature, your tried and true wisdoms. Make those your priority.

You’re used to dancing to your tune, even if no one can hear it, don’t let anyone take that from you.   You have to be prepared to act, listen, and trust in yourself.

Tarot of the Silicon Dawn by Egypt Urnash, Lo Scarebo 2011

Hey Virgo, that gut instinct of yours that’s crying out knows what it’s talking about. There are some hiccups in your plan heading your way, some things that might throw you off balance even in the best of times. I know your temptation is to dig and root and hide from the world in your own perfectly organized nest when these things happen. Don’t do that. The Four of Cups shows that this time you’re subconscious’ response to this gut instinct is listlessness and boredom, but you’ve got some big choices in your personal and work life to make now. Use that restless energy that your intuition has decided to hide in to throw yourself into the prerequisite work that goes into making those decisions. Those choices will ultimately break you out of this rut, but you’ve got to be ready for it. Change is hard, and I know you feel like you don’t always handle it great, but you have lots of time to get preemptive.

It seems as if you’ve forgotten that you are Earth in powerful, majestic human form so never ever forget how important your own dreams are. This is even more important as that Seven of Wands looms near, sitting in your gut, waiting for loss. There might be a volcano in the distance just ripe for erupting, and, yes, you need to acknowledge it, and it may not be avoidable. It doesn’t get to control your whole life. Your job is to be your beautiful Virgo self and pour that nervous energy into longer term plans and fastidious work. Sometimes volcanoes erupt and lead to that Seven of Wands where we feel like everything is against us and we have genuinely lost everything. You’re not losing everything this time. Heed that Five of Wands in the middle and get to work—the silt left after the fire is perfect for radical new seeds to take root and grow something gentler for next time.

Besides, perhaps being left without someone to take care of is for the best for now. This winter taking care of yourself and your long-term desires should be your top seven priorities. A project falling through, a dream getting stalled, chosen family fleeing your maternal nest, these things do happen for a reason and a purpose. When they do, wrap yourself up in a blanket, sure, but grab some seeds and start nurturing your work too. You’ll be so ecstatic when flowers you’ve never even seen start springing up.

The Witches Tarot – Ellen Dugan – 2012 | Connected & Free Oracle – Inner Hue – 2014 | Animal Kin Oracle – Sarah Wilder – The Fifth Element Life – 2015

6 Wands :: King Swords :: Page Swords (rx)
Advice: Confirmation
Animal Kin Wisdom: Cow – Nourishment

Well Libra, Capricorn season looks to be your best one yet!  With the dominant Swords energy running throughout this reading, it seems that all that patience and measuring for balance is finally about to pay off.  With the King of Swords as the focus, you are ruling your kingdom from the very sure and logically supported throne of truth.  You have tucked your soft and vulnerable emotional pieces deep within your armor and are going about the world from a mentally secure and mature mind frame to achieve the glories of your heart.  You are prepared to battle, armed with an analytical point of view as well as a very sharp mouthpiece to execute your plan, so it’s time to claim what’s yours and celebrate your achievements!

Victory is yours on whatever it is that you decide to put your mind to this month, dear Libra.  It all starts with you cutting through the BS to get to the heart of what it is that you want exactly.  You will be asking yourself questions as they relate to your overall happiness, your current state of being, and how you are expecting your future to shape up.  It won’t be the easiest battle to win, but it will definitely be the most exciting and hard won, because it will be all of what you want, to pull yourself into complete balance.  With the card of Confirmation showing up, it is indeed telling you that this month’s energy is one of the best to close out 2016 with.  You GREW so much in this year, and because you didn’t and haven’t given up, what you want will be yours without a shadow of a doubt.  The only piece of advice that comes along with this victory is that of Nourishment.  Make sure that you are taking care of yourself as well.  Eat well, sleep deeply, and exercise not only your mind but your body; what good is a victory if all you do is pass out as soon as you have it firmly sitting in the palm of your hand…

The CBD Tarot de Marseille – Ben Dov – 2010

“People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.”
– James A. Baldwin

You aren’t one for cages. Never have been. But the last four years were such that you needed to weave threads of support from multiple directions. It bound you up – in obligations, in thoughts, in strife, and even in some success. And now you feel the pinch and pull of all that you are bound up in. Is it the cocoon of care that you need in the chilled hold of winter? Or is it the pod that’s grown too small and begs to be bust through?

In your heart, a double-edged seed is planted. You are armed with the vision needed to penetrate even the loftiest of goals, and yet, depending on where you set your sights, this weapon may not be enough to liberate you. Have you crowned yourself with shadows? Do you still long for the past that is beyond reach? Do you chafe at the weight of the crown on your head – your own power and possibilities?

Note your cards above from right to left. A single caged flower, armed with the heavenly sword of the mind, becomes two blossoms bolstered by fire.  Finally, a sprawling blossom stretches in all directions and is supported on all sides. Supported in all directions even if it feels stretched on all sides. You are the flower that creeps up slow, rooted and stable. It is able to reach above present circumstances and break through, to novelty, to individuality, to freedom.

It is a gradual growing. Not the fire and brimstone that matches the storm in your heart. Not the hurricane you want to sweep you away. Despite what it feels like – the nervousness, the overwhelm, the uncertainty, all of your experiences hone the weapon of your focus and serve as nourishment. Let yourself be polished. Let go and be bloomed.

Sacred India Tarot – Rohit Arya – Yogi Impressions

Brave and fearless Sagittarius, the season of Capricorn will test your endurance on how well you carry out your spiritual mission while honing in on the emotional aftermath.

The physical aspect (represented by Ten of Staves) should not be ignored for this season.  Under the sign of Capricorn, an invisible taskmaster might work you to the bone.  Upon reflection, you might start to wonder if what you’re doing would make much an impact.  You may think that you’re carrying the weight of the world. In reality, you’re already being supported by those who care about your beliefs and what you offer.

The mental aspect (represented by Six of Lotuses) is all about regression.  As the season of Capricorn is about practicality, you may find yourself from time to time reminiscing on matters on what you could’ve done to improve your situations.  If you ever find yourself crying over spilled milk, remember this – the mistakes that were made are just a stepping stone for something better. When you free yourself from being perfect, you enter in a state of bliss.

The spiritual aspect (represented by Three of Lotuses) is what you’re hoping to accomplish during this period.  Under the sign of Capricorn, celebration is hardly a word being used when gaining achievements. However, you live for the comforts in your social circle and want to share your wisdom to others.  Essentially, you are striving to be the guru who hope to pass on your knowledge to those who will have an open mind, just like you do on the state of affairs from the heart.

My dear Sagittarius, embrace this period as a way to sharpen your bow and arrow of truth. Let your integrity not be wavered. You have what it takes to make the world a better place through your fiery ambition.
